Adopt a Cat!
Things you should
consider before adopting:
-
If you rent
you
must have
permission from your landlord
before adopting. If you have roommates you
need to ask them first before bringing home a
new kitty.
-
This is a long
term commitment. You are adopting an
animal that can live for 20 years or more.
We want our kitties to have forever
homes.
-
Vaccinations, well-care checkups and any other
necessary or emergency care are your
responsibility. Please
consider this before adopting. You might
consider checking out pet insurance.
-
In the
adoption contract you agree that
you will not
have the cat declawed,
regardless of age. We will be happy to
recommend alternate methods to declawing.
If you are absolutely set on having a declawed
cat, consider adopting an animal that is already
declawed. Declawed cats are listed as such
on our page of adoptable kitties.
-
You are
agreeing that
the kitty must
be indoor only.
This means that when the animal is outside it is
under restraint (leash and harness) or confined
(stroller, cat play pen). This is the law
in Fort Collins.
-
You must
follow all
the local laws for vaccinating and licensing
a kitty. Please see the Laws page for
information about owning a kitty in Fort
Collins.
-
We will
call and check up on the kitty
within a couple months of
adoption. FCCR has the right to remove
the cat from your care if we determine that that
the animal is being mistreated or neglected in
any manner.
The costs of
adopting a kitty varies. Kittens are $90 for a
single kitten, $160 for two. Cats are $70 for
a single cat, $120 for two. Both kittens and
cats are spayed/neutered, come with all their
current vaccinations and deworming, a microchip,
and a free
health checkup at South Mesa Animal Hospital.

for more information about what is included in an
adoption.
We also have special adoption rates for Senior
Citizens! Be sure to ask when you visit.
Everyone who wants to adopt a cat must fill out an
Adoption Application. This application has
information about you and your history with other
animals. It also has a place to let us know if you
rent or own your own house. If you are renting we
recommend that you download the application and get your
landlord to sign it before you come to the shelter .

Please take the time to read through our adoption
contract before considering an adoption. We do
require that our kitties not be declawed. This is
for the safety and well-being of the cat. if
you have any questions about declawing
please click here. We
also require that all adopted kitties be indoor cats
(they may go outside if highly supervised).
This is again for their safety - And it's the law in
Fort Collins. If you have
questions as to why we have these requirements we
will be glad to talk with you about them.
