"Where every cat is a wanted cat."

LEO's ANGELS

Few things in life can touch an individual as deeply as the unconditional and unfailing love of a pet. We often take it for granted that these little angels will always be around, but whether it is a life cut short or just the end of a full life, it is then that we are keenly aware of the joy and blessing they added to our lives. Here on LEO's ANGELS we pay tribute to some of the loved ones who brightened our days while they were here and continue to sweeten our memories.

LEO's Story
LEO was one of 35 cats that came to Fort Collins Cat Rescue in August of 2006. He was a little, bitty, scrawny guy covered with ringworm when he was transferred from the Cheyenne Shelter at only two months old. After a few months at FCCR with Anna, Sarah and all the other amazing volunteers, he grew into a beautiful young man. In fact, he was so beautiful that no one would adopt him as every one said “He’s so pretty he’ll get adopted quickly.” After a lengthy six month stay, the blue eyed angel found his home.

After visiting the shelter and holding many kitties, we put LEO back in his cage with Wiggles, another very special cat to the shelter. LEO immediately began kissing Wiggles on her forehead. We instantly fell in love with him and he took him home. LEO was an adorable, sweet, beautiful and very playful little boy. He loved everyone so much, especially his big brother, our dog, Poncho! He used to sleep in our bed every night and fetch and retrieve his puff balls for us to throw to him over and over. He was the only cat I ever knew who loved to play fetch.

In March 2007, we noticed LEO was getting a very large potbelly and that he tired easily. We took him into the vet and he was diagnosed with Feline Infectious Peritonitis, which infects a very small number of cats. Sadly there is no cure for FIP. We felt lucky, however, to have LEO for another three weeks – and we spoiled him rotten with love and food (he lived on sushi grade tuna and salmon!!).

While it broke our hearts to lose him, we are forever grateful that after living in shelters for the first eight months of his life, we were able to give him a loving home. Even though he was only part of our family for four months, he will forever have a spot in our home and our hearts. LEO is our Angel and an Angel of the Fort Collins Cat Rescue.
